Borah Creek Prairie features dry prairie remants on land surrounding Borah Creek in eastern Grant County, south of Fennimore. Park on the side of Mt. Ridge Road and walk in on the access lane heading west.
This was the last stop on my latest weekend excursion to southwestern Wisconsin. As such, fatigue had set in and time was a factor as well. We walked in as far as the creek, but frankly, did not see very much that was exciting. Cream wild indigo was in bloom and that is always a nice species to see, but that was largely it for the northern portion of the site. There is an entire southern half of the site that I have yet to explore and it appears accessible by following the creek south from the access road. There are numerous rock outcrops on the site and these likely harbor the dry prairie remnants. I hope to revisit this site soon, perhaps in concert with a few non-SNA sites as well.
