Bass Lake Fen encompasses an area that is much as it sounds, a fen along the shore of Bass Lake. A parking area is located on the south side of CTH YY east of STH 22. From there, walk approximately 3/4 mile due south to the north shore of the lake. The fen is primarily found on the east shore.
I am not satisfied with my visit to Bass Lake Fen. I decided at the parking area that I didn’t want to walk 3/4 mile in rubber boots, so I left them in the car. Due to the wet terrain in the fen, I could not explore as much as a I would have liked to. Adding injury to insult, it began to rain shortly after I arrived at the lakeshore. Of course, this site is high on the revisit priority list, most likely next spring. Hopefully, better weather awaits me then.
