Summerton Bog, SNA #42 (158/675)

Summerton Bog contains a mixture of wetland communities including bog, fen, and sedge meadow northwest of Endeavor.  A parking area is located off of Freedom Road on the west side of the natural area.

This is another site that requires a more detailed exploration in the near future.  Here, the weather precluded any significant exploration, as a storm moved in and hastened my departure.  The parking area is adjacent to an old field that now more resembles a low-quality prairie.  Access toward the bog is difficult with significant jungle-like conditions impeding progress.  All manner of twisted and thorny shrubbery attempts to block one’s path toward the bog.  Before the rains came, I ambled through the sedge meadow, careful to avoid the poison sumac about.  Next time, I hope to make it to the souteast corner where another bog and fen are located.  Here’s to sunnier days ahead…

More of my photos (and full-res) from Summerton Bog can be viewed here.
