Summerton Bog contains a mixture of wetland communities including bog, fen, and sedge meadow northwest of Endeavor. A parking area is located off of Freedom Road on the west side of the natural area.
This is another site that requires a more detailed exploration in the near future. Here, the weather precluded any significant exploration, as a storm moved in and hastened my departure. The parking area is adjacent to an old field that now more resembles a low-quality prairie. Access toward the bog is difficult with significant jungle-like conditions impeding progress. All manner of twisted and thorny shrubbery attempts to block one’s path toward the bog. Before the rains came, I ambled through the sedge meadow, careful to avoid the poison sumac about. Next time, I hope to make it to the souteast corner where another bog and fen are located. Here’s to sunnier days ahead…
